SDECC runs a SMART Recovery group for young adults between the ages of 16 to 25.
The group runs every Tuesday from 4:30 – 5:30pm at SDECC. It is free of charge and you can turn up on the day without having to sign up before-hand. You don’t need to be a client at SDECC to be in the group.
The group is run by trained facilitators. The purpose of the group is to provide a safe and supportive environment for young adults to address any problematic behaviours they are experiencing, in particular drug and alcohol issues. The group assists young people to work towards their own goals, which can focus on reduction of substance use. You do not need to identify as “dependent” on a substance, or as an “alcoholic” or “drug addict” to attend the group.
The group focuses on 4 main areas:
Point 1: Enhancing and maintaining motivation
Point 2: Coping with urges
Point 3: Problem solving
Point 4: Lifestyle balance
There is also an opportunity to sign up for a Work Development Order (WDO) after you have attended 4 sessions.
